Indian management pleads to BCCI to reduce games
It has been reported in the Times of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 that one of the members of management of the Indian cricket team has sent across a letter to the BCCI, exhorting it to reduce the number of games that the side is involved in. The letter also requests the board to look into how the number of unimportant games have affected the Indian cricketers and made them injury-prone.
The latest in the line of issues for India is the tri-series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, which comes just three days after the side played three back-to-back Test matches against Sri Lanka. There were breaks of only three days between each of the three Test matches as well, which means that the players have not had any rest.
The letter has outlined the injuries suffered by some of the vital Indian cricketers and the cause for the same. It speaks about those players who feature in all the three formats of the game, which means that injuries are around the corner for most of them.
Currently, players like Zaheer Khan, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 are all suffering from one form of injury. Some of these cricketers have been allowed rest, but there are some like Dhoni and Ishant, who have had to play through these injuries as well.
The letter also provides a suggestion to the BCCI. It says that the number of home Test matches against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 will be the key to the team’s success and hence, it was necessary that they reached there at least a week in advance.
The issue, though, is that the BCCI has already approved the Future Tours Program and to cancel any of the games will not go down well with the sponsors or the broadcasters.
One of the suggestions that the former cricketers have afforded consistently is to rotate the players. The BCCI is seen to be doing that for some of the series, but it is clearly not being enough as the number of injuries in the Indian camp is already on the rise. It remains to be seen whether the BCCI looks into the content of the letter more seriously.
