Indian players deny abusive behavior towards Pakistan hockey team
The former and active contenders of the Indian Hockey team on Wednesday responded angrily to Pakistan hockey side’s claim that bad treatment from the Indian crowd affected their performance at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. The Indians were of the
view that their statement was nothing more than a lame excuse for their poor show in Delhi.
Rajpal Singh, who is the captain of the Indian hockey team, said that it is an old habit of the Pakistan side to put the blame on others for their bad performance so the statement is simply ridiculous.
"This is a ridiculous excuse. If they were facing such problems then why did they keep mum after the World Cup? During Commonwealth Games they were praising Indian hospitality everywhere and now they are blaming our crowd. Actually it is their old habit,”
said the skipper.
Harendra Singh, on the other hand, who is the coach of the Indian side, said that he was not expecting such a silly statement from them.
"I was there in the stadium during Pakistan-Australia and Pakistan–Malaysia clash. The spectators were backing the Pakistani side. Even in the opening ceremony they received the biggest applaud after Indian contingent. At one side we are focusing on the
redemption of bilateral ties and on the other hand they are blaming our public. This is unfortunate and unacceptable,” reflected Singh on Wednesday.

Some of the former Indian hockey players such as Ashok Kumar as well as Ajit Pal Singh also viewed the neighbouring side’s claim as foolish. Ajit, who was the captain of the Indian side that also won the World Cup, said that it is just an absurd excuse. He
further added that as they couldn’t perform up to the mark, so they are now trying to make up for it and blaming others for the kind of performance they showed in the multi discipline Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
Besides India, Pakistan hockey team was the most loved team that also received a warm reception in India.
Ashok Kumar, who was the venue manager during the multi-discipline event while commenting on Pakistan’s claim said that it is obvious that home team gets most of the attention and crowd support,  however, to blame them of abusive treatment is simply incorrect.
All these statements came as a response to what the secretary of Pakistan Hockey Federation, Asif Bajwa, said on Tuesday  that their team was subjected to abuse and insults by the local spectators, which was one of the main reasons for their poor performance
in the event.
