Indian players did not get time to unwind and enjoy after World Cup, says Kapil Dev – Cricket News Update
Former Indian skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kapil-Dev-c70234, has lashed out at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for not giving the Men in Blue enough time to rest on their World Cup 2011 laurels and forcing them to play the lengthy Indian premier League (IPL) tournament,
claiming that this let them down against England.
He opines that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 and company should have taken proper rest after the long struggle for the second World Cup title instead of participating in the IPL-4. He believes that overdose of cricket ruined the players’ fitness and stamina, resultantly,
they moved from boom to doom in no time.
During his lecture in India yesterday, Dev said, “The players did not get time to unwind and enjoy their World Cup victory. They had worked three years for it. They just got four days (before IPL began). They should have got more time to enjoy the (triumphant)
moment.”
The ex-captain avowed that Team India played against the Poms without passion, which they had already lost by playing too much cricket at home.
“If you don't give time to unwind, you lose the passion to play. That's what happened in England (Team lost Test series 4-0 to the hosts). They went through the motions and there was no passion which is very important when you play sports,” stated the legend.
Dev postulated that no cricket match should have been played nowhere in the world for at least one month after every World Cup edition.
The 74-match IPL, which commenced with a gap of just six days after the 50-over showpiece tournament, badly exhausted almost all the key players of the world cup winning Indian team, as most of them were working as leaders.
Following the tormenting IPL, the Blue Shirts flew to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 for a high-profile contest.
The result of this cricket greed came out in the form of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s demotion from their hard-earned No 1 spot in International Test rankings.
Dev wants these mistakes not to be repeated again. The legendry cricketer represented his national team in 131 Test and 225 ODIs along with bringing home the first World Cup title in 1983.
