  1. Is it flying to the cage, or away from it? If it's flying to the cage you can try playing with it in a different room, if it can't see the cage it won't be tempted to fly to it.

If it's flying away from the cage, I'm sure you can guess that it doesn't want to go back in. My cockatiels were like that. I found that by "shielding" a bird with one hand, I could keep it from flying off; keep your hand close to the bird but just far enough away that it can't bite you (if there's a risk that it will) and move your hand to block whichever direction the bird is facing, when it looks like it is thinking of launching itself. Since it can't fly through your hand, as long as you keep your hand in the way of its flight path, it will have to remain on its perch, and this way you can keep it on your hand (or perch) until you can get it to the cage door. Then simply insert hand/perch into the cage with bird on it, close the door most of the way, and retract hand/perch.

  2. My lovebirds used to get loose...there was a whole family of them and sometimes, on a summer day they even got outside...then they would hold open the door for the parakeets...they always went to a big tree and sqwawked at us...but all their food, water, treats...millet etc. toys and shelter was in the cage...and they always came home before dusk...one of my cages opened up the entire front...I just left that open and they all came to that one...they always seemed so proud of themselves...they could get through twisties, even snap locks...I think they just wanted to be in control of their own destinies.

  3. Do you mean he tries to fly away to escape the cage, or flies to the cage? If he's afraid of the cage, perhaps you can put a special treat he likes in it to entice him into it voluntarily. A cage should be 'home' and a safe haven for a bird. Try leaving the cage door open so he can come and go as he wants - but only if you are in the area to watch so he doesn't get hurt.
