Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal says playing freely worked well in Swiss Open – Badminton news
India’s Women’s Singles top shuttler Saina Nehwal said that playing freely without taking much pressure worked really well for her in winning Women’s Singles title in last week’s Swiss Open GP Gold in Switzerland.
The World Number Five Saina has been playing quivering badminton for the last one year and also has been facing several defeats from the hands of different shuttlers, particularly Chinese opponents.
However, she showed a wonderful improvement in her technical and tactical aspects of play and remained successful in ending her title draught in Switzerland.
Besides her dip in form, Saina has also been suffering from injuries with regular intervals which affected her performance.
Nevertheless, she is back on track as it is the right time ahead of Olympic Games to get into a perfect rhythm.
She played with wonderful precision in Swiss Open and managed to successfully defend her title in Basel. Now she wants to continue her winning run while remaining calm in the court for getting good results in bigger tournament.
Saina said, "First I feel I need to calm myself down. I am the only player from India and people expect a lot. I have to relax myself, play all the strokes freely and then only I think I can improve my fitness and technique...if I just focus on training
and take a lot of pressure, then I think nothing will work out well."
The top ranked Indian shuttler also admitted that she was not playing well because of taking too much pressure.
However, she praised her coach Pullela Gopichand for his support which helped the shuttler to get out of the pressurising situation.
She said, "I was under pressure because I was not winning tournaments. I also had an ankle injury. Finally, Gopi Sir told me that I think you have taken too much of pressure and you are not enjoying your game."
Saina is looking forward to maintain her impressive form she has recently found in the Swiss Open.
The Indian ace has bigger challenges in the upcoming tournaments and she wants to remain calm in the court as she knows that it will work well again for her.
