Indian team skips http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Awards – Cricket News Update
The Indian team stumbles into another controversy after it was recently learnt that the side skipped Monday’s prestigious, International Cricket Council (ICC) Annual Awards held in London, despite having thirteen players nominated for awards.
However, as for the side’s explanation, the Indian team's manager, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nandlal-Shivlal-Yadav-c78587, said that the Men in Blue missed out on the function since the invitations only arrived at noon that day, and by then the players had already made their plans for the evening.
In response to Yadav’s statements, the ICC revealed that invitations for the event had already been sent to the Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI), two months prior to the function.
“The Indian team management had been invited to attend tonight and they were invited some weeks ago. Those who were nominated for awards have known it since 26th of August, in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canterbury-c775, when the short-listed names for the awards were announced,” said ICC’s
Communication Officer, Colin Gibson.
Officials from ICC also stated that they have confirmations from BCCI after having received the invitation and notifying its team’s attendance on the awards day.
In addition, an ICC spokesman stated that if this was not the situation, the Men in Blue would have left London for Cardiff where the tourists are scheduled to play the final fixture from their Tour to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
“The fact that their schedule included a stay in London on Monday confirms they were in know of it. I don't know whether the team was advised to attend it. They had been invited some weeks ago, end of August. The whole team was invited on August 26,” said
the official.
The awards included thirteen Indian nominees, including the nation’s star players, such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Dravid-c2229.
However, skipper Dhoni stood out to be the only Indian to have won any title for the night. The player was awarded the Spirit of Cricket title for exhibiting good sportsman spirit after recalling England’s batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IR-Bell-c1597, back to the crease, after he
was dismissed in a controversial run-out.
