Indian v Somerset – India’s tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Charl-Myles-Willoughby-c49674 takes 5
Somerset 1st innings-425/3 (declared) v Indians 1st innings 138/8 – Indian trail by 287 runs with 2 wickets remaining in the first innings – stumps at day 2
India’s star studded batting line-up got a wakeup call, as Somerset pacer, Charl Willoughby, ripped through the top order as Indians closed day 2 on 138 for 8, at the County Ground, Taunton on July 16, 2011.
The star of the show was Willoughby, who grabbed a 5-wicket haul to put his side in a commanding position at the end of the second day.
Earlier, the hosts declared at 425 for 3, as they added 96 runs to their overnight score with opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Arul-Suppiah-c1084 leading from the front, making 156.
The start of day 2 was interrupted due to heavy rain. It was not until mid-afternoon that play resumed, with Somerset recommencing their innings on 329 for 2.
Suppiah quickly moved to his 150, with yougster, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chris-Jones-c1244, also hitting the ball swiftly as both inflicted more misery on the bowlers.
Suppiah eventually fell to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Charles-Hildreth-c65540, piled on the runs, taking the total past the 400 mark.
When Somerset eventually declared, after playing for more than an hour, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jones-c69217 had moved on to a confident half century, whereas Hildreth reached an unbeaten 30 off just 28 balls, hitting 4 boundaries and a huge six.
All eyes now shifted to the star studded Indian line-up as they came out for their first innings. However, it was an embarrassing outing for the visitors as they crumbled to some sharp bowling by South African left-armer.
The start was quick, with stand in Captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447, playing a quick fire 21 off just 18 balls, with the help of six scoring shots.
However, his demise was quick too, after going for a wide delivery by Willoughby, handing a simple chance to wicket-keeper, Jos http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Butler-c48850.
The next to go was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739. He looked uneasy in his 18-run stint.
He got out (LBW) to Willoughby, which brought the Little Master, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 bowlers.
On the other end, two more wickets fell with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yuvraj-Singh-c98364, who went for a 5 ball duck, trapped in front by the left-armer, who grabbed his 4th.
However, the moment of the day came when Tendulkar went to 19-year-old, Craig Meschede. After a shaky start, the right-hander looked settled on 26 but edged one to Buttler, handing the youngster his maiden first-class wicket, while leaving the visitors
in serious trouble on 89 for 5.
The action did not stop as wickets continued to fall as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/WP-Saha-c2800, playing in the absence of Dhoni, failed to trouble the scorer.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Mishra-c871 became Willoughby’s fifth scalp, with Indians reeling at 132-8.
The only bright spot in an otherwise http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Calum-Scott-MacLeod-c49129 day for the Men in Blue was Suresh Raina’s knock, which saw the end of the day, unbeaten on 30. The Indian’s totaled in at 138 for 8, still trailing by a whopping 287-run margin.
