The Washington Mystics guard, Marissa Coleman scored a team-high 14 points, shooting 5 for 10 from the field, and grabbed four rebounds. Matee Ajavon and Jasmine Thomas added 11 points each while Nicky Anosike grabbed 10 rebounds
in the second straight defeat for Washington.
Sylvia Fowles and Epiphanny Prince paced Chicago Sky with four points apiece in the opening quarter to help their squad grab a 15-12 lead after 10 minutes of action.
Washington opened the second quarter on a 7-4 run to knot the game at 19-19, but Sky scored the next eight points to take an eight-point lead, 27-19. In addition to that, Chicago scored the last four points of the quarter and widened
their lead to 11 points, 35-24, heading into the locker room.
Michelle Snow hit a pair of free throw to stretch Chicago’s lead to 52-35 at the 02:22 mark of the third quarter. Anosike and Joy Cheek however scored the last six points of the third period to cut Chicago’s lead to 13 points at
54-41. A free throw by Snow put Chicago in front by 16 points at 67-51, midway through the fourth and Washington didn’t come close after that.
Phoenix Mercury 101 - Los Angeles Sparks 82
Diana Taurasi and Candice Dupree scored 20 points apiece as Phoenix Mercury won their second consecutive game with a 101-82 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks at US Airways Center. It was the sixth victory for Mercury in their
previous seven games.
Phoenix hit 34 for 66 from the field and allowed just 27 for 64 to Los Angeles, who slumped to 0-5 on the road this season. Kara Braxton had 14 points and five rebounds while Marie Ferdinand-Harris came off the bench with 11 points
in the victory. Forward Ebony Hoffman scored a game best 21 points, shooting 8 of 11 from the floor, and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Sparks.
LaToya Pringle tallied 12 points and nine rebounds while DeLisha Milton ended with 11 points and five rebounds in the fourth straight defeat for Los Angeles. Tina Thompson and Jenna O'Hea also added 10 points each for the Sparks.
Phoenix Mercury guard Ketia Swanier left the game late in the third quarter because of severe eye injury and did not return.
Phoenix’s Dupree and Spark’s Thompson scored six of their points in the first quarter to tie the game at 23 after 10 minutes. Sparks outscored the hosts 27-19 in the second and carried a 50-42 lead at the end of first half.
Trailing by eight points at halftime, the home team responded aggressively in the third period and converted their 8 point deficit into a 79-65 lead, heading into the fourth. Phoenix’s lead remained in double-digits during the
entire fourth quarter as they walked away with sixth victory of this season.
