Indiana Fever, Chicago Sky and San Antonio Silver Stars win – WNBA Roundup June 11, 2011 - Part 2
Kelly Miller scored 15 points while Crystal Langhorne posted 14 but could not save Washington Mystics’ from a defeat in their season home opener. Guard-forward Marissa Coleman scored 13 for Mystics, all of them in the second half
of the game.
Chicago opened the first quarter on a 4-0 and kept playing with focus, notching every possible scoring opportunity and exhibiting a good defence against the Mystics. They were leading the host team by seven points, 16-9, with 04:23
to go in the quarter and held a 25-13 advantage after 12 minutes.
In the second quarter, Chicago further widened their lead and by the time they went into the locker room at the interval, they were leading the Mystics by 51-33. Trailing by 18 points at halftime, Washington game out firing on
all cylinders in the third quarter and cut their deficit to nine points, 66-57, heading into the fourth.
Crystal Langhorne opened the fourth quarter with a jumper and then followed it with a lay-up to cut the margin to five points. The rest of the Washington cast followed with03:18 remaining in the final buzzer, managed to make it
a three-point contest, 75-72.
However, with 02:27 to go, Cathrine Kraayeveld hit a three-pointer and Sylvia Fowles shot three from the free throw line to put Chicago ahead by 81-74 for good. The game ended at 84-77.
San Antonio Silver Stars 86 - Atlanta Dream 74
Rookie Danielle Adams came off the bench with a game-high 32 points at an 11-for-19 shooting from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from free throw line as the San Antonio Silver Stars beat the Atlanta Dream 86-74 at AT&T Center.
It was the third consecutive victory for San Antonio and it also snapped their four-game losing streak against the Eastern Conference champions Atlanta.
Forwards Sophia Young and Ruth Riley chipped in with 12 points apiece for San Antonio.
Angel McCoughtry led the Dream with 19 points and seven rebounds, guard Coco Miller added 13 points and four rebounds while Erika de Souza posted 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds in the losing effort.
Atlanta played well in the first half of the game and held a 35-28 lead at halftime. Trailing by 47-41 with 04:10 to go in the third quarter, Adams hit three straight three-pointers to give the Silver Stars a 50-48 edge. However,
Atlanta managed to retake the lead, 56-55, heading into final stanza.
Atlanta however lost their swagger in the final frame. They seemed completely out of sorts and had no answer to the Silver Stars offense, which outscored them 31-18 to seal the victory.
