Indiana Fever, New York Liberty, Silver Stars and Sun win - WNBA Roundup September 12th
A total of four games played out in the WNBA on Wednesday night. Here is a roundup;
Indiana Fever versus Seattle Storm
In the first matchup of the night, Indiana Fever put up a spectacular defensive effort to force Seattle Storm in committing 28 turnovers on their way to a 72-48 victory.
Katie Douglas led the scoring with 16 points while Tamika Catchings lent a strong helping hand by chipping in 13 points, 7 rebounds and 6 steals. On the other hand, Svetlana Abrosimova was the only player from the Seattle outfit
who got into double figures with 11 points.
2. New York Liberty versus Washington Mystics
The second matchup of the night saw New York Liberty keep their playoff hopes alive as they held of the last placed Washington Mystics.
Cappie Pondexter led the way with 22 points while Nicole Powell and Kia Vaughn provided support by contributing 15 and 10 points respectively. The losing effort from the Mystics was led by a season high performance of 24 points
by Monique Currie. The win helped New York get half a game ahead of Chicago Sky for the fourth and final playoff position in the Eastern Conference.
3. San Antonio Silver Stars versus Tulsa Shock
Having lost their three previous games, the San Antonio Silver Stars needed Danielle Robinson to do a little bit of everything as they managed to defeat Tulsa Shock 78-67 at the BOK Center.
Robinson had 12 points, 5 assists, 4 steals and also grabbed 3 rebounds while Shameka Christon and Sophia Young chipped in with 17 and 16 points respectively. Glory Johnson led the losing effort for Tulsa with 18 points while Ivory
Latta came off the bench to chip in 17 points.
4. Connecticut Sun versus Phoenix Mercury
Trailing for most part of the game, Kara Lawson recorded a career high 30 points to help Connecticut Sun come from behind and make their way to a 100-78 victory over the Phoenix Mercury.
Mistie Mims also had a good game with 15 points and 9 rebounds while Kalana Greene recorded 14 points as well. At the other end, DeWanna Bonner provided great resistance with 24 points while Charde Houston contributed 13 points
of her own. But their efforts were of not much value in the end as Phoenix fell to a record of 7-22.
