Indiana Fever and Minnesota Lynx win - WNBA Roundup July 29, 2011
On Friday night, only two games took place in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). Here is a brief review of the two games:
Indiana Fever 61 – Washington Mystics 59
Shannon Bobbitt drove to the rim right at the buzzer and slipped in a layup as Indiana Fever beat Washington Mystics 61-59 victory at Verizon Center for third consecutive victory. It was fourth consecutive defeat for the Mystics.
Tamika Catchings scored a game-high 16 points, on a 6-of-12 shooting from the floor, nine rebounds, five assists and two blocks. Tammy Sutton-Brown added 12 points while Katie Douglas totalled 10 points, five rebounds and two steals
for Fever, who are heading the league with 13-6 record so far in this season. Jessica Davenport also scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds for Indiana.
Matee Ajavon had a game-high 19 points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals to lead the Mystics. Crystal Langhorne added 17 points, seven boards and three assists in the victory. Indiana shot 48 percent from the field and
limited Washington to just 34.3 percent.
Catchings scored 11 points in the first half as Indiana held a six-point lead, 37-31, at halftime. Washington limited the Fever to 13 points in the third quarter and trimmed their deficit to two, 50-48, heading into the fourth.
In a closely contested fourth period, Washington managed to take a 59-57 lead, before Davenport knocked down a jumper to knot the game at 59. Both teams then missed some easy scoring opportunities the next one minute and 39 seconds,
before Bobbitt came off the bench with her terrific running bank shot to seal the victory for Indiana.
Minnesota Lynx 92 - Seattle Storm 67
 At Target Center, Minnesota Lynx stretched their winning streak to five games with a 92-67 victory over the Seattle Storm. The victory snapped two-game winning streak of Seattle.
Seimone Augustus and Candice Wiggins led Minnesota with 16 points apiece. Maya Moore totalled 12 points, a season-high six assists and two steals while Taj McWilliams-Franklin ended with 10 points in the victory.
Swin Cash led Storm 18 points, four assists, and two steals while Lecoe Willingham came off the bench with 14 points and three rebounds. Minnesota shot 56.2 percent from the field while Seattle shot just 41.5 percent. The Lynx
converted Storm’s 18 turnovers into 25 points.
Minnesota held a 22-16 lead at the end of first period and pushed their lead to 19 points, 49-30, at halftime. Seattle continued their poor shooting in the third quarter and the Lynx further extended their lead to 25 points at
the end of the quarter. Minnesota maintained their double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter to walk away with their 12th victory of this season.
