Indiana Fever and Seattle Storm win - WNBA Roundup August 5, 2011
On Friday, two games took place in Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA).  Here is a brief review of the games:
Indiana Fever 85 – Tulsa Shock 65
At BOK Center, Indiana Fever sent WNBA-worse Tulsa Shock crashing to a 85-65 defeat, their 13th consecutive loss.  It was the fifth straight victory for Indiana.
Jessica Davenport topped all scorers on the night with 17 points, shooting 7 for 11 from the field, and four rebounds. Tamika Catchings contributed 15 points, four rebounds, two steals and two blocks for Indiana while Shavonte
Zellous added 12 points, five rebounds and two steals for Fever, who have won seven of their previous 10 games.
Katie Douglas racked up 11 points while Erin Phillips ended with 10 points, four rebounds and four assists in the victory. Tiffany Jackson led Tulsa with 12 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks. Jennifer
Lacy also came off the bench with 12 points in the defeat. Lacy also grabbed eight rebounds and ended the night on a 6 for 10 shooting from the floor.
Fever shot 51.8 percent from the field and 80 percent from free throw line while Shock shot just 38.1 percent from the floor and 75 percent from the line.
Indiana limited Tulsa to 29 points in the first half and carried a 13-point lead, 42-29 at interval. Fever pushed their lead to 26 points, 69-43, at the end of third quarter and kept Tulsa in a 20 point hole throughout the fourth
quarter.
Seattle Storm 81 - Connecticut Sun 79
Sue Bird hit a game winning three-pointer in the closing second as Seattle Storm beat Connecticut Sun 81-79 at Key Arena to record their third straight victory.
Bird finished with a game-high 20 points on a 7 for 15 shooting from the field, including 4 for 7 from three-point range. The 30-year-old guard also grabbed five rebounds in more than 34 minutes of action. Tanisha Wright posted
18 points, five assists and four rebounds while Swin Cash had 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists in the victory.
Camille Little chipped in with 13 points four rebounds and two steals for Storm, who are second in the Western Conference with a 12-8 record.
Renee Montgomery led the Sun with 19 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals while Tina Charles contributed a game best 10 rebounds and 18 points. Asjha Jones scored 12 points while Kara Lawson and Kelsey Griffin added
11 points each for Connecticut, who saw their three-game winning streak snapped. Storm shot 54.7 percent from the field and limited the visiting team to just 47.7 percent.
Seattle held a seven-point lead, 47-40, at intermission on the back of Bird’s 13-point spurt. Connecticut tried hard to make a comeback in the third quarter, but Storm hung tough to take a 63-57 lead into the final period. Sun
however got back into the game in the fourth quarter and took a 79-78 lead with three ticks to go. Bird responded with 22-footer though to seal the victory for Seattle.
