Indiana Fever and Seattle Storm win - WNBA Roundup July 21, 2011
On Thursday night, two games took place in Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). Here is a brief review of the two games:
Indiana Fever 77 – Chicago Sky 63
At Conseco Fieldhouse, Indiana Fever bounced back from their two-game losing streak with a 77-63 victory over Chicago Sky. With this victory, Indiana moved into the first place in the Eastern Conference.
Jessica Davenport led off the bench with 20 points and five rebounds on 6 for 13 shooting from the field and 8 for 10 from free throw line. Tamika Catchings had 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists while Tangela Smith added
10 points in Indiana's seventh consecutive victory against Chicago.
Sylvia Fowles punctuated a game-high 21 points, shooting 9 for 11 shooting from the field, and blocked two shots to lead the Sky. Erin Thorn totalled 15 points, five assists and three rebounds in the loss. Epiphanny Prince chipped
in with 12 points, three assists, two steals and two blocks for Sky, who have lost three of their previous five games.
Fever limited Chicago to just 27 points in first half of game and carried a 14-point lead, 41-27, at halftime. Indiana continued to play with focus and maintained an 18-point lead, heading into the last quarter.
Fever stretched their lead to 20 points, 73-53, with 04:43 to go in fourth quarter. Although, Sky fought hard and reeled off a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 13 with 02:12 to go in the game, but Indiana’s lead was too much to overcome
in the last two minutes.
Seattle Storm 73 - San Antonio Silver Stars 55
Seattle Storm snapped their three-game losing streak with a 73-55 victory over San Antonio Silver Stars at Key Arena. The victory snapped San Antonio’s two-game winning streak.
Tanisha Wright led Storm with 17 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals. Swin Cash racked up 15 points and pulled down nine rebounds for Storm, who have won three of their last six games. Camille Little contributed
10 points and four rebounds in the victory.
Sophia Young scooped a team-high 12 points and Becky Hammon scored just 11 points in the losing effort. Jia Perkins posted 10 points off the bench for San Antonio.
Seattle shot 49.1 percent from the field and limited Silver Stars to 27.7 percent. They scored six unanswered points in the last 55 second of the first quarter to take a 19-14 lead into the second.
Seattle outscored San Antonio 19-8 in the second quarter and carried a 38-22 into the locker room. Wright then scored 11 of her 17 points in the third quarter as Storm widened their lead to 22 points, heading into the fourth.
Seattle maintained their double-digit lead throughout last period of the game to walk away with eighth victory of this season.
