Indiana Fever make franchise history as they force Seattle Storm to commit 28 turnovers on their way to a dominating 72-48 win......
On Wednesday night, Katie Douglas scored 16 points as the Indiana Fever went past Seattle Storm to a 72-48 victory at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Tamika Catchings ended the night with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 6 steals to help Indiana in their pursuit of a top seed in the Eastern Conference. They are now 10-2 after the Olympic break.
It was not a very good performance at the offensive end by Indiana but their real work came at the other end of the floor, as they forced Seattle to commit a total of 28 turnovers in the game.
Fever shot the ball 33.3% from the field which was far worse than Seattle’s conversion rate of 39.6%. However, they were helped out in their cause by the 17 offensive rebounds which led to easy second chance opportunities.
Seattle’s effort in the game was led by Svetlana Abrosimova, who made her way to 11 points and 8 rebounds. However the entire Seattle team suffered against a sturdy Indiana defence as they managed to convert 19 field goals in
the game.
Indiana came out of the blocks early and raced to a 10-0 advantage early. They were able to attain a double figure advantage for most part of the first period. A quick 5-0 Storm burst with just about 2 minutes remaining saw their
lead cut into half but a Briann January free throw right at the end gave them a 18-12 lead as the stanza came to a close.
A 4-0 run to start the second saw their lead get back into double figures. Indiana would have taken a 10 point into the break but Abrosimova made a free throw to make the score 26-35 before heading into the interval.
Indiana never really looked in trouble throughout the third quarter and had an answer for every Seattle attempt to make their way back. And an 11-0 run to close the stanza further helped them in their cause as they prolonged their
advantage to 56-37. The fourth quarter was played out in similar fashion with Indiana having no troubles at all in closing out the game. Finishing with a 4-0 run added the icing as they made their way to a 24 point victory.
