Indiana Fever roll on to their seventh consecutive win; Beat
Connecticut Sun 90-78 – WNBA Recap
On Wednesday night, Six Indiana players scored in double figures as Fever cruised past Connecticut Sun 90-78 at Conseco Fieldhouse for their seventh consecutive victory of this season.
Katie Douglas scored a game-high 20 points, on an 8 for 18 shooting from the field, and dished out four assists while Jessica Davenport had 14 points, four rebounds and three steals for Indiana. Tamika Catchings added 13 points,
seven assists, five rebounds, one steal and a block. Erin Phillips also scored 13 points, pulled down five rebounds, dished out four assist and stole the ball two times. Forwards Tangela Smith and Shyra Ely punctuated 10 points each for Indiana, who are heading
both conferences so far with a 10-3 record.
For Connecticut, who lost their second straight game, Tan White sprung off the bench with a team-high 17 points, including five treys, while Tina Charles recorded a double-double with 15 points and game-high11 rebounds. Kara Lawson
racked up 11 points while Asjha Jones ended with 10 points and five rebounds in the loss.
Indiana shot 50.8 percent (32 for 63) from the field and 64.7 percent (11 for 17) from 3-point range. On the other hand, Connecticut shot just 40.0 percent (26 for 65) from the floor and 45.8 percent (11 for 24) beyond the arc.
Sun also committed 14 turnovers, five more than Fever committed on the night.
Charles pinned 4 free throws early in the first quarter as Connecticut raced to a 9-6 lead. Indiana however responded with 15 straight points to go ahead by 12 points, 21-9, with 03:25 to go in the opening period. White nipped
the surge with a three and cut the margin to nine, 21-12, but Fever went on an 11-6 run in the 2:52 to take a 32-18 lead into the second quarter.
Indiana carried the momentum in the second quarter and outscored Connecticut 21-12 to stretch their lead to 23 points, 53-30, at halftime.
Sun fought hard in the third quarter and trimmed Fever’s lead to 15 with 02:31 remaining in the quarter. However, Fever scored five unanswered points in the closing minutes of the third to maintain a 76-55 advantage, heading into
the fourth.
Indiana maintained their double-digit lead throughout the last quarter to walk away with seventh home-victory of the season.
Indiana coach Lin Dunn said at the end of the game, "I thought we played a really, really fine first half," "I was little concerned with the big lead and that we might relax a little bit and it looked like we started the third
quarter assuming the game was over.”
