Indiana Pacers head coach Frank Vogel predicts bright future for his team – NBA Update
Frank Vogel on Tuesday reposed confidence in his team, claiming that the Indiana Pacers were set for a very bright future. Vogel became interim coach of the Pacers in the 2010 – 2011 NBA season and formally assumed the head coach position on this year.
He has since gone on to oversee a steep rise n the fortunes of Indiana, changing the style of play at the club and utilizing his players effectively to achieve tremendous results. Indiana not only made it into the NBA playoffs this season, they defeated
the Orlando Magic in the first round before giving the mighty Miami Heat a real run for their money in the second.
And the coach believes that this is only the start of a pretty special cycle for the Pacers.
"I think we've built something that's sustainable here around a young group of guys, and I think we're going to have a chance every year for the next five to seven years," Vogel said Tuesday.
Indiana have a roster full of talented players and depth that is the envy of teams around the NBA. They also will have plenty of cap space this off season, even if they retain All-Star centre Roy Hibbert and Grant Hill to new contracts. Those two are restricted
free agents.
Vogel though doesn’t really want to bring anyone else in. He is confident with the personnel he has at his disposal and would be more than happy to see this group of players grow together.
"I'd like to have the exact same team we have right now because I think we're really good right now and I think there's a lot of room for improvement," Vogel said. "I think with the youth we have on the roster and my system being so new, and West not being
a young player but his first year on the team and George Hill not really a young guy but his first year on the team, I think there's a lot of room to grow."
The Pacers have a number of young stars, such as Paul George and Danny Granger, who really shone during the playoffs and the franchise will be looking for them to continue their improvement next season, helping them make a jump in quality as well.
