Indiana Pacers legend Reggie Miller gets another shot at the hall of fame induction – NBA News
Former Indiana Pacers shooting guard, Reggie Miller, who had an outstanding 18 years NBA career, was included in the NBA hall of fame candidates last year as a testament for his valuable contributions to the game.
However, surprisingly he failed to receive enough number of votes to become a finalist.
This is how hall of fame has been operating for years.
Although usually most deserving candidates are inducted, but often there are few omissions that just fail to digest in and lead to questions of transparency.
Same was the case with Reggie last year, however after much hue and cry over his omission last year, the lady luck has smiled on Miller again and he has succeeded make the cut in this year’s list as well.
Other prominent names that have succeeded to make it in the list are
Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond, Jerry Krause, Vlade Divac, Bill Fitch, Gary Williams, Paul Westphal, Ron Boone, Mack Calvin, Spencer Haywood, Cotton Fitzsimmons, Curt Gowdy, d**k Bavetta, Maurice Cheeks, Lefty Driesell, Gene Shue,
Jim Valvano, Tom Jernstedt, Billy Packer, Rick Pitino, Jennifer Azzi, Rebecca Lobo, Jamaal Wilkes, Teresa Weatherspoon Katrina McClain, Paul Silas, George Raveling, Eddie Sutton, Rudy Tomjanovich and Louie Dampier.
It is too early to predict who amongst these will make it into the Naismith Hall of Fame this time however one thing is for sure, Reggie along with Jerry Krause will definitely make into the finals.
It will be nothing short of a blunder if Reggie doesn’t go on to win enough votes this time.
A fighter, who was born with physical deformities and was dependant on braces to walk for many years belonged to family of athletes, and that is what motivated him to fight his disability and after years of continuous struggle,
he overcame that. What followed was an era of greatness.
He was selected by the Indiana Pacers in the NBA draft of 1987- a decision that was not received well amongst the fans initially as he was preferred over a native Indiana home boy. However in the next 3-4 years, with his performances,
he went on to win hearts of all those who despised his selection and made Indiana into a formidable team.
By the time, Miller finished his career, he was the highest three point scorer ever to have graced the NBA and it was only last season that Ray Allen, the Boston Celtics guard, managed to eclipse that feat. Reggie called it quits
in 2005 but did not go away from NBA. He has been an NBA commentator on TNT since.
