Indiana Pacers new head coach Frank Vogel visits his native town in New Jersey - NBA Update
The Indiana Pacers new head Coach Frank Vogel made a visit to his native town, Wildwood Crest in New Jersey earlier this week and rejuvenated his past memories. He came to Wildwood Crest Pier Recreation Centre for vacation with
his family and met his old friends.
During the visit, he showed up at a gym and signed many autographs for young basketball players.
Vogel also spoke to the media and mentioned about his pleasure during his visit.
“It’s really special coming back here. Not just now that I’m an NBA head coach but every time I come back here for the last how many years, this is where my passion of basketball was born, this building here and across the street
at those (outdoor) courts. From the time I was 7 years old, I was always playing in the rec leagues in the wintertime and the summer leagues across the street so it’s always special coming back here.”
After serving as an interim coach of the Pacers in the second half of last season, Vogel was officially announced the new head coach of Indiana Pacers earlier this month. Last season, he helped the Pacers to qualify for the playoffs.
He took over when the team was in dire straits and struggling in their surge for a playoff position. Vogel turned it all around though. He changes their playing philosophy and the ensured that the Pacers reach the playoffs. It is believed that the post season
contention was the primary reason why the Pacers management made him head coach of their team.
Vogel was born in Wildwood and attended the Wildwood High School. He completed his graduation in 1991 and entered into Juniata College, where he played his college basketball for next three years. His managing skills were extraordinary
not as player but as role model who can groom others. He left his college playing career and made his way into the University of Kentucky as a team manager.
Vogel worked vigilantly in Kentucky and made way into NBA through Boston Celtics. He was given the responsibly of video coordinator of the Celtics. During that tenure, he worked very closely with Rick Pitino who was the head coach.
After spending five years, the Celtics management promoted Vogel as an assistant to Pitino. His official coaching career stared on the Celtics platform. He pursued his coaching career further and landed in the Philadelphia 76ers
as an assistant coach. Vogel has also worked as an advance scout for the Los Angeles Lakers and Washington Wizards.
