Indiana Pacers part ways with scouts Joe Ash, Brian Winters and Leonard Perry – NBA Update
On Tuesday, the NBA lockout which has put a financial constraint on the players and the franchises alike resulted in yet another ugly consequence. It has been learnt that Joe Ash, Brian Winters and Leonard Perry, the three Indiana
Pacers scouts, will not get their contracts renewed for the upcoming NBA season. This step has apparently been taken to cut short on the team expenses.
Winters has been a coach in both NBA and the WNBA and scouted Paul George in the 2010 draft. Ash had been with the Pacers for the last eight years and served in the capacity of director of scouting. Leonard Perry on the other hand
was hired as an assistant to Head coach Rick Carlisle in 2006.
However, with the lockout prospering in its second month, Indiana Pacers, after Sacramento Kings and Charlotte Bobcats, have become the third team to lay off its employees.
However, there can be another reason to it. The Pacers have one of the youngest rosters in the league and as such they need to fill the team with experienced players. Players like Darren Collison, Danny Granger, Tyler Hansbrough
George Hill, Roy Hibbert and Paul George make the young core of this team and all they need is a veteran to provide some on court leadership and hustle.
If compared with the other teams of the league, the Pacers have much more cap space. It means, they have more chances of acquiring veteran agents like Jamal Crawford, Tyson Chandler or David West in the free agency.
The Pacers even with a young team achieved much last season, when they reached the playoffs. They gave the Chicago Bulls a run for their money in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs and many analysts have predicted
great things for them next season. The team will grow further if some good players join this crew and it is a possibility that they will make it to the top teams of Eastern Conference in a few years.
To top it off, they have a up tempo coach in the form of 39 year Frank Vogel and an experienced lead assistant in the shape of Brian Shaw and at the moment, it seems that the Pacers will only forward, with or without scouts.
