Indiana Pacers push Charlotte Bobcats back into the quagmire with a 108-73 win – NBA Recap
Just when it seemed that the nightmare for the Charlotte Bobcats was over after they had beaten the Toronto Raptors on Friday night, they were pushed back into the same pit on Sunday by Indiana Pacers. The Pacers thwarted the visiting Bobcats from gaining their 5th win of the season, handing out a resounding 108 – 73 loss instead at Bankers Life Field house.
Bobcats, who trailed throughout the game by double digits, as much as 44 points after halftime, had weak defence and an ineffective offense while their shooting rate was hopeless as well; just 37.3% from the floor and 59.1% from the free throw line.
Derrick Brown was the highest scorer for Charlotte as he scored 16 points while Kemba Walker had 15, reserve DJ White and forward Corey Maggette netted 10 apiece.
On the contrary, 6 players climbed up the double figure index for Pacers. Roy Hibbert was on top as he recorded his double-double with 18 points and 14 boards. Danny Granger and David West had 14 a piece while reserve Tyler Hansbrough had 13.
Dahntay Jones recorded 12 coming off the bench and Darren Collison was also in the mix with 11 points helping Indiana bank their 9th victory at home.
Pacers coach called for a timeout early in the opening quarter with scores, 5-2. Afterwards they entered the court with a pretty impenetrable defensive strategy.
Pacers coach Frank Vogel commented on the time out.
"We had a defensive breakdown and I wanted to send a message. They know what we can be on the defensive end and how it can take us to great things.”
Indiana made a 16-0 sprint with 03:39 left in the opening stanza leaving the visiting side trailing at 21-2. However, starting with Williams’ dunk shot, Bobcats made a 10-3 run that narrowed the gap to 24-12 by the end of segment.
Charlotte came back with a 5-0 run early in the 2nd frame that reduced the gap to 24-17 with Pacers in the lead. The game was closely contested in the following minutes but with Bobcats inability to eat away the deficit, and courtesy of their poor defence, Indiana netted 29 more points while Bobcats could only add 16.
Thus at halftime, the score was 53-33 with Pacers leading.
Indiana made a 22-7 run that started early in the 3rd period and finished with03:03 left in the same quarter, placing them miles ahead of the guests at 78-42. Substantiated with another 10-3 run they capped off the segment at 88-48, having a mammoth 40 points lead before going into the last 12 minutes of the game.
Bobcats had no hope in the decisive quarter and strived to reduce the margin of their defeat.
With 06:17 left on the clock and Pacers in the lead with 102-58, Charlotte went on a 15-6 run that couldn’t do much harm to the mammoth lead but perhaps helped their damaged esteem a bit. With this run, the game concluded at 108-73, the Pacers grabbing their 19th victory of the season.
