Indiana Pacers to keep Frank Vogel and append Brian Shaw as assistant – NBA Update
Indiana Pacers elongated exploration to complete their coaching vacancies has finally started to take shape and it has been reported that they are at the final stages of coming up with a decision.
Former Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Brian Shaw, who worked under the Hall of Famer Phil Jackson, was interviewed by the Pacers’ officials and he is expected to join the team as an associate head coach within a week.
Larry Bird, the president of Indiana Pacers said, "We brought Brian in and interviewed him, and Frank's been talking to him. Hopefully, next week, at the end of next week we can sort something out and hopefully get something done."
The Pacers have decided to keep the 38 year old Frank Vogel and will remove his tag of interim coach by next week.
Bird has been projecting Vogel as the frontrunner for the head coaching position and never gave it a second thought. Larry was looking for the top assistant who can offer some further depth in guiding the line-up. After interviewing
Shaw, the Indiana Pacers seems to have come to a conclusion that Brian in the best man available for the job.
Brain assisted Jackson for seven years and was a big reason for Lakers unremitting success. The 45 year old Shaw marked a great impression on the team and he was relatively considered to be the next coach of Lakers when Jackson
confirmed his retirement in the middle of the 2010-2011 season. Even the legendary Kobe Bryant casted his vote for Shaw however the franchise hired the former Cleveland Cavaliers coach Mike Brown for the post which opened the doors for the other teams to make
a deal with Shaw.
Brian who was Larry’s teammate in the Boston Celtics now teams up with him to improvise the basketball operations for the Indiana Pacers. Brian is a brilliant instructor and an outstanding motivator who can definitely make further
improvements in the team.
On the other hand, Frank earned the position of the head coach by spearheading the Pacers into the play-offs for the first time since 2006. Vogel took over the responsibilities from Jim O’Brien in the middle of the last season
when the team was struggling once again to qualify for the post-season as Frank guided them to finish with the eighth spot in the Eastern conference.
Larry stated that Vogel deserves to be at the position which is favoured by his performance.
Brain and Vogel, both are phenomenal coaches and the Indiana Pacers can do wonders in the next season under their guidance.
