Indiana Pacers want Reggie Miller to take over once Larry Bird retires – NBA News
The head of the Indiana Pacers basketball operations Larry Bird is looking to bid adieu to the franchise in the next season. To fill the spot, the Pacers’ owner Herb Simon has already started the search and so far the most prominent
candidate for the job is Indiana’s legendary player Reggie Miller.
At the moment, Miller is working as a National Basketball Association commentator for a television network. Although Miller had spent his entire 18 year playing career with the Pacers, but he lacks the managerial experience and
has never worked in this capacity.
Currently Simon is in search of opinions on Miller from different people in the league. This list for the post also includes Donnie Walsh, who had served the Pacers in the past as General Manager and had recently resigned from
the post of president of the New York Knicks.
Many close friends of Miller along with the people close to the Pacers, wants him to pursue the option seriously. As one close source to Miller told that, “He’s going to look hard at this, if it’s presented in the right way.”
This is not the first time when Simon has thought of bringing Miller in the Pacers as an executive. Herb has been working on this idea for many years now. According to sources close to Herb, he is thinking that perhaps this could
be the right time to bring Miller in and groom him in order to run the basketball operations of the franchise.
When it comes hiring, Simon’s first priority is to get hold of those people, whom he knows and can trust. Simon has never been afraid of taking his chances and handing over the important posts to the former legends is the proof
of it. This is the reason why Simon is not afraid to bring in Miller for such an important post without having any experience.
Walsh on the other hand hadn’t left the Knicks job because he was tired of the job; in fact he was fired in a rather bizarre manner. Walsh is not done yet though and he is still keen, full of energy and ready to work again.
