i recently got a job at a local pet grooming salon and boarding. i think its a family owned business because i have never heard of one being anywhere else. they told me today that the pay starts out at $6.55 an hour. minimum wage for indiana is at least $7.00. so i was wondering if they are required by law to pay me minimum wage or if because they are a family owned business they can pay me whatever they want. if you have any questions i will add extra details to answer them. thanks for any help you may have.

  1. Lisa M is correct re Indiana minimum wage - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S... - it looks like Indiana is the same as the federal minimum wage.

  2. Minimum wage in Indiana is currently $5.85.  It is going to increase this July to $6.55.  Next year  it is going to increase again to $7.00.

I used to be a Payroll clerk, and I remember the confusion last year when min. wage went up and am also in Indiana.
