Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning says rehab only
his top priority – NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts star quarterback Peyton Manning who sat out the complete regular season of the National Football League (NFL) 2011 said on Monday that rehab from his ankle injury was the only priority task in front of him.
His assuring words have come in the perspective of the uncertainty surrounding his comeback to the Colts given a different scenario on the card amid prospects of signing the top draft pick next season.
The Indianapolis Colts courtesy of their loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars on the past weekend have become eligible for top draft recruitment who stands out so far to be Stanford College’s quarterback Andre Luck.
Peyton Manning however said he was away from all those issues focusing solely on his recovery from his neck surgery.
"I've got to get healthy for me, for the team. I'm under contract with the Colts. That's my job is to get healthy for them," he told reporters after Sunday's season-ending 19-13 loss at Jacksonville. "It's been hard not being able to help on the field this
year."
Manning did not play a single game for the Colts in 2011 or practice since having neck surgery in September 2011. It was his third surgery for the same injury in last 18 months.
His doctors allowed him to intensify his workout about three weeks to closing of the regular NFL season, giving him rather unlikely hopes for a return this season.
It followed with Manning taking snaps in the practice with his team next week but was seen very limited in his throws.
A win then for his side in their 14th game, which was their first of the season, changed his side fortunes and his chances for a comeback.
In the very next week the team’s owner Jim Irsay said that the quarterback will not be joining them for rest of the season.
His statement was followed by the team’s coach comments who went on to say that Peyton Manning will not join his squad for practice. He will recover through individual workout instead, he said.
However, Irsay went on to clarify the Manning’s chances for return to the Colts next season, saying if Peyton plays football next season it will be with the Indianapolis Colts.
Irrespective to all the statements and different views on his recovery and chances for play next season Peyton Manning said he was only focused on the rehab and not worried about all these developments.
