Indianapolis Colts’ QB Andrew Luck feels as 'Scrub rookie' despite impressive camp – NFL News
It was an impressive first week at training for Indianapolis Colts’ rookie quarterback Andrew Luck – the onlookers have spoken high of the QB's talent and potential - but the player himself says he is not satisfied and done yet.
He said it was very encouraging to receive praise from some of high calibre members of the football community but insisted it was too early for him to claim satisfaction.
The QB said:
"It's always very nice when two guys of such high calibre (Dungy and Vinatieri) say those things, but I feel like a scrub rookie every day, so far."
Andrew, who did not have a competitor in front of him at the starting line, took snaps with the starting team throughout the week and is expected to do so for the rest of training camp.
The teammates and officials who watched the player during the week say he already looks to be a mature player, handling the situation sensibly and without taking any pressure.
Wide receiver Reggie Wayne is particularly full of praise for Luck. He said:
"Andrew's going to be good. He's going to be really good. He's really smart. He knows what's going on around him. He understands the concept; he understands the terminology. He understands it all."
Coach Chuck Pagano is also pleased with the rookie’s progress so far. The coach said:
"I love where we're at on both sides of the ball. I love where we're at on special teams. We've got a long, long way to go and you know they've bought into what we've talked about the whole time."
Luck’s performance has also pleased the owner Jim Irsay, who although is yet to take to his favourite medium of communication – Twitter – to boast success of the new quarterback, some sections of media have cited him pinpointing the team’s future on Luck.
The owner is content with the progress of the rookie at the camp so far but agrees to Luck’s view that it is just the beginning and the player still has a long way to go.
The prospects look to be even brighter as far as the performance of the new QB is concerned.
