Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck league’s leading rookie with 4183 yards passing – NFL News
Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback Andrew Luck has continued to thrive on record-breaking streak in the season, and his latest milestone achievement is breaking a year-old record of Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton for most passing yards
by a rookie in a season.
Luck who led the Colts versus the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday (Dec. 23) needed only 74 yards to break Newton’s record of 4,051 passing yards. Luck broke the record in first half of the game by passing for 123 yards, and then went on to
take his side into the playoffs with a convincing 20-13 win.
The QB finished the game by throwing for 205 yards, and a touchdown. At the end of the tie he amassed 4,183 yards, the fresh record set by a rookie in first pro year.
Meanwhile, Luck with total 21 touchdowns is just behind Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson’s 25 touchdowns. Wilson is in need of another touchdown to match the rookie year touchdowns (26) record of Peyton Manning which he had
set during his rookie appearance in the league in 1998.
The most important achievement of Luck is that he has led the Colts through to the playoffs during his first pro year, which is a rare achievement for any quarterback. His predecessor Manning even had waited for four years to play his
first playoffs.
It shows how significant the decision was of owner Jim Irsay, to bring in top draft of the year. Irsay was severely criticised for his choice of parting ways with former QB Peyton Manning and persisting with the rookie, but he can have
a look back at it now and feel proud of the choice he had made then.
Although almost all commentators had rated Luck to be a bright pro spot, no one could have guessed he would attain so much success that would help the Colts stage a turnaround from a miserable season of 2011. The Colts managed only two
wins last season, and being a younger side this year in the league, analysts’ projections saw them able to register three or four wins during this entire season.
Luck has helped the side to prove all the critics and punters wrong.
