Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck prepares for New England Patriots’ challenge – NFL News
Indianapolis Colts’ rookie star quarterback Andrew Luck is preparing for another stellar defensive challenge from the New England Patriots and has spoken high of the defence strength.
So far the young offence leader has ripped through many strong defensive lines but he realises that Patriots defence is not that easy to overcome.
The Colts are also conscious of the fact that the player needs extra security around him because all the teams they have played against so far have particularly marked him and posed some tough challenge to him.
Although Luck has been successful in overcoming all those challenges safely and securely, the Patriots game is the first real test of all his game characteristics, and he knows his skills of running, strength and throwing will be challenged at once.
He says of the situation:
"Their front four is incredibly stout. Wilfork is one of the best nose tackles-interior guys in the league. They have very good edge rushers on the sides. They do get to the quarterback and even if it's not a sack, they sort of harass, force a quarterback out of the pocket. So, that'll be a focus all week."
It is courtesy to Luck and the company on the offensive line that the Colts have managed the record of 6-3 and if they are able to beat the Patriots no other team can stop them then.
Again, playing safe and sound will be crucial for the player because the Colts cannot afford an injury to their leader at this juncture of the season. They hardly have any chance at the backup position and the team must do better protecting him.
The main problem is that Luck is exposed out on the field. He is more visible because of his game stature than any other Colts’ player and since the first game of the season he has been chased around by all defensive lines.
Even owner Jim Irsay has admitted that they have to increase security of their offence leader given the amount of pressure he has already been in.
The Patriots game is as important for the Colts as are all other games and to win the competitive challenge they will have to rely on Luck’s performance.
