Indianapolis Colts QB Chandler Harnish – Mr Irrelevant – says lucky to become pro – NFL News
Indianapolis Colts’ backup quarterback, Chandler Harnish, dubbed Mr Irrelevant for being selected as the last pick, at No. 253, off this year’s draft has spoken great about his pro career prospects.
The player says he is lucky to have won a place in the National Football League (NFL) as there can be so many other players waiting for a chance no matter at what position.
He also said he has been enjoying the ride of Mr Irrelevant week, which is organised every year in honour of the last overall draft selection of the season.
Chandler said:
"I've never thought of Mr. Irrelevant as being a negative connotation by any means. I know there's a lot of guys out there who would have loved to get drafted. To be one of the 253 is something I take with a lot of pride."
He added:
"If I start stressing about that kind of situation, I'll drive myself crazy. That's way above my pay-grade, so again, the only thing I can do is go out and prove every day and try to be the best quarterback I can be."
Harnish will play as a backup for rookie, Andrew Luck, and hopes for making the most of the experience. He emphasised that the entire group of rookie players will be crucial to the team’s performance this year, which itself is going to
come out on the field as an entirely new unit.
The owner, Jim Irsay, has overhauled the team at almost all positions, and a majority of players are into first year of their stint with Colts.
Harnish, a guest of honour at Mr Irrelevant week in California, has received a donation of $10,000 from his team for the charities he wants to contribute to. The week is marked with a number of activities led by the player, and proceeds
from those activities go to local charities serving different social causes.
It is a rare honour for the player to fetch so much popularity and reputation despite being selected at the bottom of the draft. He has already been making headlines, and become as much popular as the top draft pick, Indianapolis Colts'
offence leader, Andrew Luck.
