Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning a target of Tennessee Titans fans homecoming ad campaign – NFL News
A couple of teams have already expressed their interest in signing Indianapolis’s quarterback, Peyton Manning, off the free agency, and the player, as of the latest, has become a target of an unusual advertising campaign, designed and launched by the Tennessee
Titans’ fans, who are calling for the player’s homecoming.
The fans are so much convinced about Manning's release by Colts that they have started laying down the red carpet for the star, apparently being allured by the hopes that he will be joining the Titans, irrespective of the fact that the team already has four
quarterbacks into his side.
"It's kind of evident to the sports world they're going to let Peyton go, they're not going to pay him the money that he's due and he's going to be a free agent," Todd Mayo said.
"All the sports talk guys are saying he could go to Arizona and Washington and every place but Tennessee. We've got a young quarterback here at the Titans. "If you could upgrade your team with the caliber of Peyton, why would you not?"
Mayo, a Titans' fan who works at an advertising agency, added:
"Call it fan-vertising if you will, but kind of a concept to put the power in the fans' hands and let Peyton know how much he's wanted in the state of Tennessee for the Titans."
He said that he, with help from his brother has designed and launched a player-focused website ‘www.comehomepeyton.com’ that features the content around the campaign, including pro-player parody songs.
The Tennessee Titans finished the 2011 National Football League (NFL) regular season with the record of 9-7. They were unlucky to have missed an opportunity of playing in the postseason round of the league.
With the possibility of Manning joining Titans, which so far is just a wish of their fans, their chances of progressing as far as the American Football Conference championship is concerned would definitely increase.
It is yet to be confirmed if the player would be cut lose by his team, the Indianapolis Colts, and if he is available off a free agency, a number of teams are weighing their options of signing him.
The New York Jets and Miami Dolphins have gone public about their interest in Manning provided that the player is made available. With Titans in the race, it will not be difficult for the player to find a place to play football in the future.
Titans' fans advertising campaign is one of the few highlights that underlined the importance and demand for the player in the league.
He himself has not spoken of a desire of moving elsewhere when he comes out of his recovery from a neck injury, possibly in the near future.
