Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning all cleared to play football again, Irsay’s call pending – NFL News
Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, Peyton Manning, has received a major boost to his hopes of playing football for more seasons to come with or without Colts following his doctor’s assurance that the player was all cleared to play the game.
Peyton Manning had suffered a neck injury before start of the 2011 National Football League (NFL) regular season and underwent a surgery for it in September, last year.
The recovery process made him miss the entire past season and there was the lingering question around his recovery from the injury to his previous strength.
His doctor, Dr Robert Watkins, has reiterated his earlier stance that the player would be able to fully recover and play football again, and the doc has now cleared him to do so at any time in the future.
A spokesman to doctor said in a statement on his behalf that the player has been all cleared to resume his game and there were no issues with his ability being affected due to the injury.
"Peyton Manning underwent a thorough medical re-evaluation as part of a postoperative visit with his surgeon," Watkins' statement said. "As a result of this examination, Manning is medically cleared to play professional football."
The statement has cleared the cloudy environment hanging over his chances of playing football in the future again.
It is yet to be confirmed if his team, the Indianapolis Colts, take an influence from the doctor’s assurance and decide to have the QB back to their side, which at this moment looks very much difficult.
Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, is reported to have hinted at putting the player through the in-house tests and clearance, saying that the players will need to pass the team’s testing procedures.
His statement does not bode well into the desire of the player and hopes of Colts fans of his return to the Indianapolis, which is increasingly become impossible.
Irsay earlier said that a final decision on Peyton Manning’s future at Colts will be down to his health and the team management will not take any step that has a long-term effect on his health and life.
Following the doctor’s statement and Irsay’s apparent reference to the conditionality of the in-house testing procedures has pointed out the worthiness of the reports claiming that Colts have decided to move on from Manning’s era weeks ago.
Irsay has the final call on the option of $28 million in bonus to him by March 08, 2012 or otherwise let him go free agency.
Colts new general manager, Ryan Grigson, said that Irsay will be taking all those decisions in the best interest of the franchise and its future.
"You can't do things to where you are going to hurt the whole franchise with other decisions that you know might hurt at the moment, but in the end they help the sum of the parts," Grison said.
With Super Bowl over now a meeting between Irsay and Peyton is likely to take place in the near future, which will determine their respective.
