Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Austin Collie was in fears of another concussion after appearing for the first time in the game versus Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday after recovery from his previous and consecutive third head injury since November 2010
but he was lucky at the end to escape the worst possibility as the injury turned out to be a hurt knee.
Austin remained unmoved on the ground with the injury for a while after successfully attempting a six-yard pass from quarterback Andrew Luck which even made the spectators gasp with a sense of petty for him but they later cheered when the team’s medical
staff helped him on the sidelines with limping right leg.
He could manage to hold only a single pass before suffering the injury blow and did not return to the field for the rest of the game which the Colts lost to the visitors.
It is not clear if the player is going to be able to stage a comeback for the weekend game. The team had not provided an update about the status of the receiver until filing of this report.
Collie had suffered last concussion on August 19 and was lucky to recover efficiently, making himself available for third game of the season.
He was nevertheless seen prone to frequent injury scares and still is, given he is placed right in the middle of the field without any protection whatsoever, and coach Chuck Pagano refusing straightaway to consider repositioning him.
The receiver has fought well to keep his career prospects alive while he continued suffering the blows in quick successions, and unless the Colts consider changing his placement he is unlikely to stay unaffected.
If the latest injury is as serious as anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) or medial collateral ligament (MCL), the regular season may well be over for Collie. The player was expected to undergo some scans later on Monday and results from them can determine
a future course for his recovery and return.
The player can only hope it is not a serious injury and his career hopes remain alive as far as this season is concerned.
