Indianapolis Colts WR Reggie Wayne’s focus on receptions amazes QB Andrew Luck – NFL News
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck has spoken high of work ethics and standards of veteran wide receiver Reggie Wayne, but admits the receiver’s emphasis to be ‘open’ and focal point of throws reception is so much that it sometimes gives an impression if he is lobbying for the ball.
Although Luck appears to have developed a good rapport with Reggie who has worked with former star Peyton Manning, he is amazed by the receiver’s so much attention-seeking attitude as far as receiving throws is concerned.
Luck was recently asked by journalists if Wayne told him he was always open, and the QB said:
"Absolutely. Even as a Pop Warner kid, you knew that the receiver that was, and I don't want to say complaining, but maybe lobbying for the ball. He's deserved that right. He's deserved that right. It's an honour for me just to throw the ball to him."
He added:
"He gets open. He has an uncanny knack for when it's zone, where the hole is going to be based on where the other routes are running. When it's man, he's got all the tricks up his sleeve about how to get open. He means so much to this offence."
Wayne is a five-time Pro Bowler and has successfully worked with Manning in the past. In fact they were one of the most successful duos of the offence in the league and helped the Colts to many victories.
Now since arrival of the new quarterback Wayne has successfully built a good working relationship with him and as Luck says his always being open point has kept the quarterback going for him while throwing the ball every now and then.
Luck is also impressed with the receiver’s higher work ethics and standards, and sees it as an advantage for young players to learn from the veteran’s experience.
The quarterback also concedes that Wayne has proven himself to be a great influence in the locker room. Although the receiver is fast approaching the maturity days of his career, he remains as much active and agile on the field as he is in the locker room.
