Indianapolis Colts aim for natural game but must improve from 2-14 record – NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts are aiming to play their natural game rather than being carried away by expectations of the fans given the team maintains a rather young squad.
Jim Irsay has revamped his franchise at all positions and in spite of the fact that the fans are furious about the unceremonious departure of their former star quarterback Peyton Manning, Colts have been given the task of playing to their natural abilities
and potential.
Irrespective of the fact that the stakes are higher for the owner, expecting too much from the players into the rookie year is not a welcome choice for him either. For example, rookie QB Andrew Luck has proved so far he is no doubt a star player, but he
too needs time and space to adapt to the pro conditions and demands of the environment.
It should not be a sign of worry for the team even if the rookie fails in the first year appearance, which remains to be a least likely case. This is natural. Even Peyton took six years to win his first playoff appearance.
Also, the team, as claimed by the owner, is in a phase of a transition from successful past to an unpredictable future and any result should be acceptable for all stakeholders. Even fans might be able to come to the terms and throw their unconditional support
behind Luck and other players.
No doubt, a sign of resentment is clearly visible on the surface, reflective in the team's struggle to sell the tickets to their stadium’s capacity but since appearance and early success of Luck they are holding their breath to attentively see how the situation
develops.
Any unexpected success led by Luck or any other player will convince and bring back the deserted fans to show up their support.
One thing in front of Colts, however, is the previous season’s record. They must do better from the 2-14 record to compensate the fans’ sense of loss and regret to some extent.
Colts made a good start to their preseason campaign – with a win – but a real test is awaiting them ahead in the regular season when performance in each game is accounted for.
