Indianapolis Colts coach Bruce Arians confirms rookie RB Vick Ballard replaces injured Donald Brown
Indianapolis Colts coach Bruce Arians has confirmed ousting of running back Donald Brown for about next three weeks with a knee injury and said the team expects rookie RB Vick Ballard to start for them this Sunday (Oct. 14) for the first time.
Donald had a surgery on the knee to get a torn cartilage repaired on past Tuesday, and according to the coach, he should not take more than three weeks for returning to the side.
In the meantime, the coach said, Ballard, who has so far rushed for 42 yards on 21 carries and has an average of 2.0 yards per carry, will take the position of injured Brown. The official hopes for a better performance from the young RB this time around.
Although the coach did not elaborate which of the knees was hurt, he said that Brown’s absence provides the rookie with a rare opportunity to show his talent and skills on the offensive line.
Brown, who maintains a record of 239 yards that he rushed on 60 carries and an average of 4.0 yards per carry including a touchdown, was injured in the game versus the Green Bay Packers on past Sunday.
He was inspected on the sidelines and then later scans results showed he has a torn cartilage in the knee. He required a surgery to get it repaired which he went through on Tuesday.
Bruce, who has replaced ill Chuck Pagano as an interim Colts coach, will be supervising his second game with the team. Chuck has been diagnosed with leukaemia and is hospitalised. The charge of the coaching affair is with Bruce who has already guided the
team to a win during his first-ever appearance as a head coach.
The Colts will face the New York Jets this Sunday and after beating the Green Bay Packers the coach is upbeat about giving an even better performance this weekend. He said that the game of quarterback Andrew Luck and wide receiver Reggie Wayne will be crucial
to their victory chances against the Jets.
Both players were stars of their show against the Packers. They made an impressive coordinated effort that helped their side edge past the opponents.
