Indianapolis Colts confirm signings of Kyle Miller, Matt Overton to unspecified deals-NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts confirmed to have signed a pair of unrestricted free agents off the free agency to add to the squad’s strength at certain positions.
Colts’ management has disclosed the signing of tight end, Kyle Miller, to an undisclosed deal. Financial terms, tenure and other conditions of the deal have not been made public by either the player’s agent or Colts’ managers.
It is going to be practically first season for Miller as after being picked up by the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2011, he was waived by the team before start of the National Football League (NFL) regular season.
So, he had remained an unrestricted free agent throughout the season and now finally has been added to Colts’ squad.
Previously, he had played at Division III power Mount Union in Alliance and his record includes 62 receptions and seven touchdowns. He managed to put up 872 yards in total.
Since Colts will be coming out in the next NFL season as a rather new outfit, he stands a good chance to make a crucial contribution to the team’s overall performance.
Meanwhile, Colts also confirmed to have taken on board long snapper, Matt Overton, from the United Football League (UFL).
He was signed by the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2007, but unfortunately was released before start of the regular season.
Overton again returned to Seahawks in 2010, but for the same outcome that he was waived before the commencement of regular season.
After the release from Seahawks, he signed with the Omaha Nighthawks in the UFL and played successive games for them before signing by Colts.
The terms of this deal are also not disclosed by either the team or the player. He can only hope that this time Colts, another NFL franchise, do not release him without giving an opportunity to play a game in the regular season and beyond.
It is one of the rare opportunities for the player to showcase his talent and game skills in the NFL, as so far he has not been given real chance for it.
The two signings turned out to be notable additions from Colts after they had released about half a dozen players in one go, following to the waiver of quarterback, Peyton Manning, earlier last month.
Jim Irsay, Colts’ owner, has said the team was in a phase of transition and rebuilding as he looks for avoiding a repeat of the form the outfit showed in 2011 NFL season.
It was probably the worst time of the franchise when they ended up with only two wins in the entire season, spreading over 17 weeks and 16 games.
The credibility of the so called rebuilding campaign will be only proven by the team’s performance this season.
