Indianapolis Colts’ contingent in Stanford to witness draft QB Andrew Luck private workout-NFL News
The prospective top draft pick, Andrew Luck, has agreed a workout for his possibly potential employers, the Indianapolis Colts, in the native town of Stanford on Tuesday, April 03, 2012.
Luck, who is coming to 2012 National Football league (NFL) on top of the list of this seasons’ drafts, had been requested for the workout session by Colts earlier last week.
Some reports claimed that Colts had intended to invite the player to Indianapolis for the workout but the franchise’s owner, Jim Irsay, tweeted to confirm that officials from the front office and coaches travelled to Stanford to meet the player and witness
the workout.
The contingent included general manager, Ryan Grigson, vice president football operations, Tom Telesco, head coach, Chuck Pagano, quarterbacks’ coach, Clyde Christensen and offensive co-ordinator, Bruce Arians.
Irsay who is the frontrunner in the campaign for evaluation and possible signing of the draft QB has avoided being present at the workout.
He, however, confirmed the scheduled private workout through his Tweets, commenting that the management had also made a similar offer to the other leading draft pick, Robert Griffin III (RG3).
He wrote:
"A Luck private workout 2day.We want 2b as thorough n disciplined n process of #1 pick. We wanted 2do private with RG3,but his agent said no."
With a couple of weeks left to this year’s draft, Indianapolis Colts have increased momentum of their campaign for signing the new quarterback.
They, however, are yet to make a final choice between Luck and Griffin III.
Some commentators and former team officials have backed Andrew Luck to be Colts’ future choice.
Almost all of them have endorsed him to be the right fit for the team in the longer run.
One of those officials is Colts’ offensive co-ordinator, Tom Moore. He believes that the team must go for signing Luck.
He said of Luck:
"He's the real deal. If you draft him you never have to worry about anything. You know he'll be prepared. You know he'll be in shape. You know he'll study. You know he'll practice hard. You won't have to worry about anything. And you'll know he's going to
go home and spend two-to-three more hours working on what you talked about."
The situation must be clearer for the management after Luck’s workout.
Colts earlier were hundred per cent about signing Luck, but have been made through some difficulties on the matter of choice following emergence and rising of Griffin III in the draft ratings.
Jim Irsay, while explaining the situation, admitted that they had not made their mind about Luck to be their final choice and the decision would be taken after evaluation of all aspects of the player’s talent and game skills.
