Indianapolis Colts cut guard Matt Murphy, sign new guard Zane Taylor off Eagles waiver-NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts have signed guard, Zane Taylor, off the waiver of the Philadelphia Eagles and released Matt Murphy to create space on the roster to accommodate the new arrival.
Ryan Grigson, the Colts new general manager who has worked with Eagles as a front office staff before arriving in Indianapolis in January this year, is said to be the main force behind attracting Taylor to Colts.
Grigson had already brought a couple of players from his former team and the guard is the latest addition to the team that is credited to the GM’s efforts.
The team has already traded for Winston Justice besides signing free agent centre, Mike McGlynn.
Taylor had joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ practice squad in September last year but was released within a couple of months. He then went on to join Eagles’ practice squad in November.
He had been inducted into the New York Jets’ side as an undrafted free agent out of Utah in 2011, where he had started for 38 games and was three-time all-conference selection.
Since picking as many as 11 rookie players from this year’s draft, held from April 26 to 28, he is the first significant addition by the team.
Before that the team had introduced some rash changes to the squad, cutting a majority of former players off the roster while bringing in an equal number of new ones.
Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, was so much frustrated over the team’s poorest 2011 National Football League (NFL) season in which they could win only two games out of total 16 that he parted ways with the entire former team of staff members and coaches.
Grigson himself is an addition to the management that has come about as a result of dismissal of former GM, Chris Polian, the son of famous Colts’ chairman, Bill Polian, who also lost his job.
Grigson is leading the hiring campaign since joining but apparently he is advised and his decisions are approved by the owner. Irsay was the active member of the team when they decided to sign rookie QB, Andrew Luck, off the draft.
