Indianapolis Colts finally rule quarterback Peyton Manning out of current season – NFL News
Having lived with the rumours over return of quarterback Peyton Manning from injury to play for his side over past few weeks Indianapolis Colts management has finally confirmed that the player will not play for them at all this season.
The confirmation came from Colts vice chairman Bill Polian in a rare statement following the first win of Indianapolis Colts on past Sunday. Polian said that Manning will not play this season despite that he has started throwing football to his teammates at the team training complex.
"It was determined by the doctors that there was no chance he (Manning) would play this year," Polian said. "His rehabilitation has not come far enough to make it prudent for him to step on the field in game action. He may practice in some very scripted and circumscribed circumstances if he wishes. That's entirely up to him."
The vice chairman said that the player had thrown about 30 throws to his teammates after the team’s regular practice session ended on Wednesday. He however added that they were prescribed throws and there was nothing new in his workout regimen.
While confirming that the Colts will be without Peyton Manning for the remaining two games of current regular season of National Football League (NFL), Polian defended that his confirmation was not in violation of any NFL rule. He was accompanied by Colts coach Jim Caldwell.
This is for the first time that the Colts have spoken out loudly that Peyton Manning holds no chances to play for them this season. The side has kept the player on their active roster since the start of current regular season, hoping he might return to rescue them from their winless misery.
They however finally managed a win without manning in their last 14 games and the minutes later confirmed that they will be without him for rest of the season.
Peyton Manning had neck surgery in May this year and since then has been waiting for recovery. A couple of weeks earlier doctors gave him permission to intensify his workout raising his hopes for him for a possible return.
Colts coach Jim Caldwell said last week that Manning had started throwing football which increased the team’s expectation that he might be able finally to play for them this season.
The vice chairman said that he did not expect that Peyton Manning will be throwing again before their final game against Houston Texans, and therefore they will not be any chances of his return this season.
