Indianapolis Colts fire GM Chris Polian after releasing his father Bill a day earlier – NFL News
A day after the Indianapolis Colts announced to have fired their vice chairman Bill Polian they said that they have relieved his son Chris Polian from his duties as a general manager of the team.
Chris has become the prey of the Colts cleansing drive after it cost his father’s job. The drive still continues and many other team members are seen to be in line next.
Firing of Chris surprised the Colts team members as much as did Bill Polian’s departure on Monday. Their quarterback Peyton Manning said he was stunned over hearing of the news and could not believe for a moment.
"Bill and I and Chris Polian has been here the whole time, too, had a great ride with tremendous highs and it makes me very sad that this ends on such a negative note," said Manning. "I knew when the Colts hired Bill with his track record in Buffalo and
Carolina, that I would be very happy to be a part of an organization he ran. And that proved to be true. I knew he would hire the best coaches, provide the best possible surroundings, give me great teammates and he did that and I will be forever indebted to
him."
Despite neither of the two Polian have spoken out of the reason behind their release by the team owner Jim Irsay according to certain quarters the change was in coming. They however are particularly amazed that the shake-up drive has started with the vice
chairman as most of the eyes were focused on the coach Jim Caldwell.
Chris had joined the Colts about four years ago but was kept limited in his day-to-day duties at the office. His involvement increased this season however and he was seen making the decisions on the team matters more regularly.
Following exit of their vice chairman the owner Jim Irsay defended his decision saying the change was inevitable to rebuilding of his team to better its future prospects.
The season 2011 proved to be one of the worst years for the Indianapolis Colts. The side has managed only two wins in the 16 games they played in the regular season of the National Football League (NFL).
At one stage, they however were on the even worse course of ending the season at their lowest of 0-16 score, which could have made them the only second side in the professional football history to have gone so low.
