Indianapolis Colts get accustomed to Chuck Pagano’s coaching regimen – NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts have started buying into the training approach and workout scheme of the new head coach, Chuck Pagano, who is in the first year of his stint with the team.
Chuck has deserted the Baltimore Ravens as a defensive coordinator to join Colts as a result of the team’s complete overhauling drive, lunched by the owner, Jim Irsay.
Having remained limited in the workout activity due to the offseason phase, the coach has finally started setting tone of his workout scheme for the next season, already making an impression on a number of players.
Particularly to note is the change in the defensive strategy of the team to ‘hybrid’ 3-4 scheme with a comprehensive but flexible approach and the development is seen benefiting the team to a greater extent given they are going to be out
on the field with a new quarterback, who can affect the strength of their offence.
Andrew Luck, who has arrived in Indianapolis as the top draft prize out of the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft, has too many expectations. Putting some additional responsibilities on the defence should help Andrew’s cause by
taking away pressure on him to some extent.
Colts’ veteran safety, Antoine Bethea, has particularly liked that the coach is implementing his training agenda in an environment quite lighter to the scheme of former coach, Jim Caldwell, and vice president, Bill Polian, who focused
the disciplinary side of it more than anything else.
He said of the training atmosphere under the new coach:
“It’s very lively around here, eveybody’s joking. We’ve got a job to get done, and (Pagano's) making sure we know that. But at the same time we can have fun with it. ...We’re just having a real good time learning the concepts.”
The player added:
“It’s a little different. It was way more business like -- not saying it’s not business like now. But it was, ‘We’re out here, we’re going to get the job done, no goofing around.’ Here we’re kind of freed up a little bit, just having a
little more fun.”
Jim must be happy that the coach has quickly immersed into his responsibilities without facing any difficulty as far as his relationship with players is concerned.
