Indianapolis Colts help playoff cause through successive wins – NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts with consecutive four wins have strongly emerged as contenders for the playoffs from the American Football Conference (AFC) South division this season.
If they manage to reach the second round, it will be a remarkable rebound on their two-win 2011 season and credit of the entire success must go to their young offence leader, rookie quarterback Andrew Luck.
He was their selection because of the past season’s ending at the bottom of the league. So the team can safely argue that the 2011’s insignificant performance was not wasted, after all. It has proven to be a blessing in disguise.
With Luck arriving in the Indianapolis as a top-notch draft selection, the Colts have managed well to record six victories so far, and three losses. They with 6-3 record are just behind the AFC South leaders the Houston Texans 7-1.
The Colts’ cause is helped to an extent by their divisional rivals – the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars. The Titans have managed three wins so far, while the Jags just have a single win to their credit.
Both teams have failed to make an impression on the field while the Colts have been extending their lead gradually. The only win for the Jags was in fact against the Colts but the latter revenged the loss recently by compressively beating hosts the Jags
(27-10).
If the Colts continue their same level of form they can be through to the playoffs even without contesting for a wildcard opportunity. More than half of the season is gone and the Titans and Jags have very few games left to play. With the number of games
left for the Jags it is difficult for them to catch on with the Colts even if they win them all.
The Titans have an outright chance to make up for their losses, but it will be difficult for them too to equalise with the Colts in the division.
The Colts have six more games to play in the regular season and if they manage to win even half of them, they can finish 9-7 on the board. It will then depend on other teams’ position to see if they are able to make the playoffs with or without a wildcard
chance. Overall, they have made a very strong case for the playoffs.
