Indianapolis Colts hold private meeting to debate losing streak – NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts are trying re-gathered themselves as a team after having dropped 0-9, for the first time in more than a decade.
A private meeting of the team was held to this effect on last Monday with centre Jeff Saturday in chair, apparently to give a stern talk.
Saturday had called the meeting after their loss 7-31 loss to the Atlanta Falcons a day after the meeting was held. The Colts had gone down to similar position 0-9 in 1997 and this another season that are facing the same worst
position.
The question however is whether the private talk would the Colts to come out of their miserable position in the remaining half of the current season of the American football league, the National Football League (NFL).
"I felt like it needed to be said and I said it," Saturday said. "We just need to play better as a team, we need to get wins and ultimately that's what it was about."
He however declined to go into details about the agenda of the meeting and what message he had given to the team except for that it was a stern talk.
"He did what a veteran should do," receiver Reggie Wayne said. "He steps up and he puts his two cents in and he did a great job of that. I think everybody understood where he was coming from and I think we all took it personally
and we should."
Wayne said that Saturday's message was simple that to stay focus on the game and playing it better. He did not have to be Randy Savage or scream or yell out at the guys to pass on his message, he simply asked them to love the game
and noting else.
Saturday said that there was nothing new about the meeting. It was a matter of routine and that all the teams follow the norm in the circumstances. He said given the dismal circumstances that the Colts has been facing without Peyton
Manning a meeting like this one was needed to regroup the guys.
Colts seemed to have been struggling without their quarterback Manning who is out because his neck injury. He already had surgery and is waiting to recover before he makes a comeback.
It was this necessity that the Saturday had come out with his message to his team that enough was enough and there should be serious efforts to keep focus on the game and make it better every week over previous week.
Colts have not come out of the pressure they are feeling in absence of Manning. This is well reflected in the table points of 0-9 down, as the NFL current season enters into the week 10.
