The Indianapolis Colts have set an ambitious hope for a good news from scans results of their quarterback Peyton Manning about his recovery and come back to play this season.
Manning will undergo scans this week and results will determine status of his neck injury and his chances for playing for the Colts this season.
The player has had third surgery on his neck, third one in past 19 months. He was injured on September 8, and has not played or practiced since.
Tests are being performed to see if fusion of his neck vertebrae was complete. It will be only then that doctors will determine the possibility and time table about his rehabilitation and return.
Manning had been kept limited to some cardiovascular workout through machine and some weightlifting for his biceps and triceps. Doctors have cautioned him that until his spine has completely fused and healed throwing will risk
rotator cuff or elbow injury to him.
After doctors and Colts medical staff determine his injury status it will be clear if Manning is able to play this season.
The Colts have hoped that Manning might be able to return to bring them out of record loss of 0-11. The last week lost 27-19 to Carolina Panthers.
Manning's younger brother who plays for the New York Giants at quarterback position said he expected that his elder brother will play this season.
Meanwhile, Colts vice chairman Bill Polian said that the Colts will continue to keep him on active roster. He however has repeated confirmed that they will definitely be looking for his replacement no matter even if he is a new
draft. The hunt for new signee will start at opening of new draft season in April next year.
To avoid losing Manning in the context of hopes that he will recover to start his professional football career again, Polian said that the Colts can afford to continue to pay Peyton Manning for next season and their potential new
signee at the same time. Many observers however had seen this decision as too costly for them in terms of money. It tantamounts to signing of a new professional player.
