Indianapolis Colts in a fix over choice for draft picks, Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III-NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts are said to be in a fix over the choice of their next quarterback, who could either be Stanford College’s Andrew Luck or Baylor’s Griffin III, also known as RG3.
Until very recently, Andrew Luck was confirmed to be the definite choice for them. However, with officials from Colts’ front office attending RG3’s pro day, the management is reported to be equally interested in him.
In one of his earlier comments, Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, had hinted at the exploring options around RG3’s signing, and said to have not made his mind final about Andrew Luck.
He recalled that the team was facing the similar situation at the time of signing their former quarterback, Peyton Manning, in 1998. The decision to take Peyton on board then proved to be credible one as the player transformed into an elite star over the
course of the next 14 years.
Now the owner is keen on making a right choice again as he is seen making a competitive choice to introduce future’s Manning to the team.
Obviously, the future is going to prove if his choice this time around is going to be as much credible as of Manning’s, but as of yet, he has not made up his mind.
As per the league rules, Colts, courtesy of their poor performance (2-14) in the last NFL season, have become eligible for the top draft prize.
Until recently, Colts were reported to be on the course of signing Luck off the draft market when it opens next month (April 2012).
Some recent reports indicated that the owner seems to be interested in weighing the option of signing the second-seeded draft pick, Griffin III. The presence of Colts officials’ at RG3’s pro day proved these reports to be credible.
Irsay is said to make sure that the next draft player proves to be their next Peyton Manning. This indicates that the owner has too much on the stake since the controversial release of Peyton Manning. He apparently is attempting to show that his decision
of parting ways with Manning did not cost the team anything at all.
However, the choice is only going to become clearer with the start of actual draft season.
