Indianapolis Colts make it official they will sign top draft QB Andrew Luck-NFL News
Indianapolis Colts’ general manager, Ryan Grigson, has formally confirmed they will sign the top draft prize, Stanford College’s quarterback, Andrew Luck, in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft due to begin on Thursday, April 26.
Colts had left the issue of taking Luck on board linger on into much controversy and confusion. Franchise owner, Jim Irsay, recently indicated in his tweets that Luck is the number-one player they most likely will hire.
The matter had kept feeding the media debate and commentators’ discussions for over the past two weeks before Grigson admitted that Luck indeed was their final choice.
It is official now that Colts will land a deal with Luck in the forthcoming draft. The draft market will remain open for a couple of days, finally closing on Saturday.
The GM said:
"We didn't see the point in prolonging what the world already knows. It's about Andrew and we wanted to do the right thing by him."
Living much up to their tradition, Colts played around the issue as much as they had done with the case of exit of former QB, Peyton Manning.
Manning, to the much annoyance of the team’s fans, was released just ahead of his $28 million bonus payment deadline of March 08.
Until then, Irsay had denied of having made his mind to part ways with Peyton even though almost all commentators agreed that the management had already decided to move beyond Manning’s era.
Some of the fans are not happy with Irsay’s approach over handling of the issues of higher importance such as of Manning and Luck, as the owner tends to create much hype, suspense and confusion through his contradictory tweets, but ends up chewing his own
words by admitting to the matters he denies all the time.
Irsay again has played around the issue of drafting the QB, denying until very recently that they have made their choice that Luck will be their future QB.
The owner said they were in a difficult situation to choose between Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III.
A majority of commentators had agreed quite well before of the official confirmation that Colts had already settled down with their choice of selecting Luck in the draft.
