Indianapolis Colts’ new head coach by next week: Can he be Ohio State Buckeyes Jim Tressel? – NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts are expected to finalise their choice for the head coaching position by middle to late next week, which could be former Ohio State Buckeyes' coach, Jim Tressel.
Apparently, there is no confirmation from the team management or a hint from them that could lead to the conclusion of hiring their new head coaching official, team’s owner, Jim Irsay, is reported to have flown to Florida on past Friday, January 20, 2012,
to interview Tressel for second time.
Irsay has not disclosed details of his visit to Florida and what was the outcome of the meeting, his tweets confirmed the team management will take a decision on their new head coach by mid to late next week.
"The (hash)1 pick debate will rage on,what a great year to have it..the HC search is wide ranging n thorough, decision by mid 2 late next week," the owner wrote on his tweeter account.
Tressel is the latest official to have been interviewed by the Colts, and probably for the second time, following their request for interviewing of Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator, Jay Gruden. Gruden reported had refused to move elsewhere.
The team has interviewed officials at a couple of other teams. None of them has been tipped to be leading the prospects. Tressel has become the only official to have been interviewed two times and could be possibility for the team to place him at the place
of their former head coach, Jim Caldwell.
Caldwell was fired by the team owner a couple of days he terminated contracts of eight assistant coaches in one go. Their sacking had followed removal of team’s vice chairman, Bill Polian, and his son, Chris Polian, who was a general management at the team.
The team management with new manager, Ryan Grigson, has launched a hunt for the new coach and with him in place by what the team management says next week, more changes are seen on the card at all positions in the team squad.
A decision on the future of their quarterback, Peyton Manning, is likely to be the foremost challenge for him. The team is yet to decide if they will take back Manning to their line-up if he returns from his neck injury to play football again next season.
Allowing him go free agent could be a possibility.
Irsay is holding all cards on the issue of Manning closer to his chest and no one is aware of the future courses of the team and quarterback.
Colts new coach will also be facing some other challenges on joining of the team. Finding and grooming talent, which is a must to turn around the side to be a consistent winner on the field, is one of them.
