Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay defends sacking of team officials as rebuilding process – NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts said on Wednesday that the side was focusing rebuilding process into certain areas of the team with next season on mind.
It may be too difficult for Jim Irsay outfit to overcome the season 2011, which proved to be their worst year in the American professional football history; the owner’s hiring firing drive will determine their future course.
They played 16 games in total losing 14 while emerging winners in just two, and it this dismal show-off that has made the team owner to go straight for reshuffling after the regular season.
Irsay has already fired his vice chairman Bill Polian and his son general manager Chris Polian, keeping many other officials including the coach Jim Caldwell under the evaluation.
Inspite of the surprise expressed by certain quarters over sacking of the two officials Jim Irsay defended his decision saying the changes were part of the process of rebuilding his side in certain areas.
"There is no sugar-coating the fact that there are areas of talent that we need," Irsay said after the Polians' firing. "The decisions that are coming up are crucial, and obviously, when you're looking at a general manager, a head coach, having the No. 1
pick in the draft and knowing that you're rebuilding in some areas, that is about as massive as it gets."
He stopped short of giving a clue who will be next in the line of fire. There are speculations and rumours in circulation concerning the uncertainty that ensued from the sackings.
What happens next? is the question that the Colts receiver Pierre Garcon has posed in his tweet on his account following the announcement of Polians’ departures.
The head coach Jim Caldwell meanwhile has continued his duties as normal despite all speculations and fears expressed about his job.
"I'm moving forward. I'm working," Caldwell said. "There are a lot of things I could have done better. We're 2-14, OK? And I consider myself to be responsible for every single one of those losses."
The owner also did not say anything on his plans for hiring of the vice chairman and general manager’s replacements and if there were any potential targets on their radar.
Reports in some sections of media have tipped Green Bay's Reggie McKenzie and Baltimore's Eric DeCosta as likely candidate for the respective slots.
It is yet to be seen if Irsay continues with his cleansing drive or the firing of the two personnel from the management was final and it may be hiring of new players next.
