Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay keen on meeting Peyton Manning to discuss future course – NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said on Wednesday that he plans to meet their injured quarterback Peyton Manning in a week time and the outcome of the meeting will determine the future direction for his team.
A couple of days into postseason and the Colts have already reshuffled some of the key positions in their management.
It all started with firing of their vice chairman Bill Polian. His son Chris Polian the Colts’ general manager was next to go the very next day his father was sacked.
As of the latest, Irsay said that he will be holding a meeting with Manning within next week to discuss his future.
The discussion is expected to focus his chances for recovery from a neck injury and his possible comeback to the team for next season.
"I think the key thing for me has always been, and particularly since the fusion, is it safe for him to go on the field? Is it something where he is healthy enough to resume his career, to go on the field and play at a high level but also to be in harm's
way in the physical game that we have?" Irsay said Monday. "What he means to the franchise, what he means to the Colts and to the league, (his health) to me always has been the most important decision."
Peyton had a neck surgery in September 2011 and did not play a single game or practice in the outgoing season of the National Football League (NFL). It was his third neck surgery in last 19 months.
It was for the first that Manning did not start for his side in last 14 years of his career at the Colts and apparently his team was affected by his absence so much that they could not pull off a win until their 14th game.
Amid an atmosphere of two-way speculations and controversies the Indianapolis Colts kept the player on their active roster hoping he might stage a comeback at some point of time in the season and boost their chances for a win.
The side however ruled him out of the rest of the season after their win in the 14th game. The announcement did not serve well Peyton’s ambitions for the return as doctors by then had advised him to intensify his workout and he even started throwing
ball at practice.
Contradictory reports followed in some section of press on his unlikelihood of playing for his team next season.
Irsay however expressed optimism that if Manning plays football for another season it will be with the Colts.
The next meeting between the owner and Manning is seen in this perspective and it is expected to set a future course for both parties with nothing much stake for both sides at this stage.
