Indianapolis Colts’ owner Jim Irsay reported seeking delay on QB Peyton Manning decision – NFL News
An atmosphere of uncertainty and insecurity around the football future of Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, Peyton Manning, is set to continue amid reports of his employer, Jim Irsay’s expressive determination to wait until very last moment for deciding if
he is going to make the payment of $28 million optional bonus to him or let him go free agency.
The issue that has been in the headlines of all the possibilities around Peyton’s future has taken another twist following the latest reports of Irsay apparently being interested in seeking the delay in the final decision on Peyton’s issue until the day
of the March 08, deadline.
Irsay had earlier said that the final decision on the Manning’s football future will be down to his health and he would not be taking any step that has a negative effect on his health and franchise in the longer run.
His latest statement is quoted to be in the same context, certainly delaying his final choice about the player’s possibility of continuing playing at Colts.
"It's two-phased. There's the medical aspect, as to whether he can play at a really high level and that's the only place he wants to be. Can he drill it in Foxboro in 10 degrees, 50 yards, that sort of thing," Irsay said. "The second issue has always been
his health and the risks of going back onto the field. When the Super Bowl ends, he and I will continue to talk about it."
Colts new general manager, Ryan Grigson, had echoed similar concerns and said that the team management will not be taking any decision that affects the franchise in the longer run.
Irsay’s delaying reports also coincide with his assurances that Peyton was till a Colts and that nothing has been decided about his future by them. He was referring to some reports, which claimed that Colts have decided to move beyond Manning era weeks ago.
Amid all those controversies and speculations, Indianapolis Colts fans and other segments of football community have expressed their strong desire to see the four-time Most Valuable Player (MVP) playing again for Colts.
The player was in the spot light during the week leading to the Super Bowl game and media had confronted his employer at many occasions to know about his final choice about the QB.
A number of them have blamed the owner of being responsible for creating an unnecessary confusion and uncertainty about the player’s career.
Peyton’s agent, Tom Condon, has also highlighted his client’s desire for staging a comeback to Colts, and at the same time he pointed out at his understanding that it was business and the issue developing as part of it.
He added that the player will also be flexible in talks with Irsay on his deal and might agree to an extension in the bonus payment deadline.
