Indianapolis Colts’ owner Jim Irsay says closer to signing rookie QB Andrew Luck – NFL News
Indianapolis Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, says they are closer to signing a deal with rookie quarterback, Andrew Luck, who is selected in the first round of the 2012 National Football (NFL) draft held in April.
The owner took to his favourite social networking site, Twitter, to react to reports of last week claiming that a controversy on the rights of endorsements has become an impediment in the negotiations between the team and Luck’s agent
over the deal matter.
Jim denied those reports and wrote on his account that they were closer to agree to terms of the deal.
His tweet reads:
"Someone is being fed a big breaky of BS this morning. The'One Source'is completely wrong/We're close on #12 n final details unrelated 2 marketing."
A section of media reported last week that Colts management wants to keep the rights of the player’s endorsements, curtailing his availability to too many bosses.
It further claimed emergence of some differences over the language of terms related to marketing/endorsements, which the player deserves.
Some commentators believe Luck should be allowed to have the commercial success, which is a normal practice for any player in any sport.
This was the first reported hurdle in the way to reaching a deal between the two parties, as the owner had earlier asserted they would like to land the QB a contract as quickly as possible.
Will Wilson, the player’s agent, did not elaborate the matter much, except for saying he had “nothing to add.” His silence fuelled the speculations of the deadlock between the stakeholders, to much frustration of Colts’ owner.
Although the owner has refrained from disclosing anything around the prospective contract that the team intends to give to the rookie, according to an earlier indication, it is expected to be a $22 million, four-year contract.
Luck at the moment is in Indianapolis training at the team’s facilities in the city. A few days back, he said he was focused to improve his game and not concerned about the deal matter.
He has not said anything on the latest controversy.
